Asteroidz (2023)

SOLO 6 WEEKS Unity

Asteroidz is a 2D space shooter and my first fully completed game, developed as a solo college project over 6 weeks. Inspired by the arcade classic Asteroids and the twin-stick action of Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved, players navigate an ever-increasing field of hazards — destroying asteroids, enemy ships, and a boss encounter while surviving for as long as possible.

Before each run, players select from a set of wildcards — optional modifiers that adjust difficulty and alter gameplay parameters, inspired by a similar system in Spider Heck.

Built in Unity using C#, the project was completed independently within the 6-week timeframe and includes:

  • Responsive player movement and shooting controls
  • Weapon system featuring projectile shooting and deployable mines
  • Power-up system with in-run pickups
  • Multiple enemy types with distinct behaviours
  • Boss encounter with a large enemy ship
  • Custom 2D sprites
  • Original in-game music
